This award-winning modern home on the Chesapeake Bay is both beautiful and sustainable. A concrete wall and piers flank a fountain that extends the view through to a pool and waterfront beyond. The Charlottesville-based architects selected mix of shou sugi ban siding (charred wood) and composite Reynobond metal panels for the walls. Exterior trellis-covered terraces are limestone and visually extend into the interior where limestone banding is mixed with polished concrete floors. The house is Passivhaus compliant; it is super-insulated employing Huber Zip Panels and triple-pane German windows, among other strategies, to achieve major reductions in energy consumption.  Design Partner – Allison Ewing
