The design of this 3,000 SF house, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, takes advantage of the steep slope of the site, stepping down in a series of terraces and decks, while partially embedding the lower level. An inverted truss roof with deep overhangs evokes the tree canopy. Structural insulated panels (SIPS) at the walls and roof provide excellent insulation and an air-tight enclosure. Superior Walls at the basement complete the panelized approach combining thermal properties with a reduction in material waste. Design Partner – Chris Hays
