This 6,000 SF daycare center, located in Missouri, overlooks a south-facing wooded landscape. The Architects sought to introduce the children at an early age to a comfortable and healthy environment – one that could have a positive impact on the environment-at-large.
Led by Hays and Ewing, former Partners at William McDonough + Partners, the building is organized around two daylit atria. The atria and surrounding classrooms connect indoor spaces with the outdoors and the building and program are structured to encourage the flow of children from inside to outside as weather permits. The outdoor play areas and landscape are designed to capture and filter stormwater. The project was completed in 1998.
