Charlotte Residence
Residential
with William McDonough + Partners
Charlotte, North Carolina-based clients hired the architects to design a 4,000 SF house that would take advantage of the beauty of the seven-acre wooded site. The design, led by Allison Ewing former Partner of William McDonough + Partners, is organized around a series of stone walls that extend from the interior of the house into the landscape, on axis with specimen oaks. The curved roof, like the tree canopy, hovers above the predominantly open-plan organization.
Structural insulated panels, sustainably-harvested woods, and radiant floors are some of the ecological strategies incorporated. Ample daylight and views combined with low-VOC materials and fresh-air provide healthy living.
