The designers envisioned a park experience activated by the senses of touch, sound and smell. Sail-like metal sculptures shield occupants from the wind. Pivoting with breezes, the sculptures act as wind chimes, emitting harmonic sound that changes with the wind. The plantings, a colorful and fragrant tapestry, are organized in linear bands that recall the nearby docking slips. The park is intended as a place of quiet repose amidst the downtown Manhattan bustle.
